EWIS Peripherals (Pvt) Ltd. with the affiliation of Lexmark International has been working towards this environmental initiative since 2005 in order to collect and recycle toner cartridges. Under this initiative, customers are encouraged to return their used toner cartridges back to EWIS, which in turn are returned to Lexmark for recycling. Toner collection boxes are placed in customer sites to make the process simple and easy.
EWIS, the first ICT Company in Sri Lanka, to obtain the environmental license for e-waste management from the Central Environmental Authority (CEA), is very positive that with the existing support from their customers and the CEA, that this initiative could be taken to the next level, while assuring their role in the commitment for a greener Sri Lanka.
The Cartridge Collection & Recycling Program was honored with a special recognition award at an award ceremony for “Appreciating e-waste management initiatives” recently held at the CEA. This was held under the patronage of the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka.
Ms. Roseanne Wijayanayaka Director/ General Manager of EWIS Peripherals (Pvt) Ltd. stated “We want our valued customers to play an active role in this initiative”. If not for their commitment and interest this initiative would never have been a success. We are planning to introduce more programmes to educate our customers to make them aware of the importance of properly disposing used toner cartridges and the negative impacts of not doing so. While being a responsible citizen, they can also earn Lex dollars by returning these cartridges, which could be redeemed at any transaction with EWIS.”
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Minister appreciated all e-waste management initiatives of corporates and recognized several other private and public sector entities as well.
Being the only ICT Company in Sri Lanka to affiliate with the United Nations Global Compact, EWIS implements many environmentally friendly initiatives with the theme “Green is a shade of blue”.
